As part of the RSK Group, SCP Transport are looking to build on recent successes and expand operations. We are looking for people to help us continue this path – all opportunities are open to further progression through a sustained demonstration of increased ability and high level of commitment.

The Role:

As a Principal Transport Planner you will possess the necessary experience, knowledge and technical expertise to assist the project manager on each commission for which their support and assistance is required. You should have excellent knowledge of national and local planning guidance and technical design standards and be up-to-date with the latest tools available to ensure the accuracy of the advice given in the field of transport planning.

You will have the opportunity to provide essential support for more senior personnel to ensure successful delivery of a commission and to provide expertise and assistance in all aspects of highway engineering and transportation planning.

You will require an ability to be proactive in undertaking work and will require a good understanding and practical experience of the financial and project management skills required to ensure that the firm’s competitiveness in the marketplace is retained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be prepared to be an occasional direct point of contact on project-related matters.
  • To assist senior personnel in the identification of the necessary internal and external resources and skills required to fulfil the obligations of each and every commission to the budget and timescale agreed with the client.
  • Liaise/meet with other consultants and external members of the project team where necessary to ensure co-ordination of information and resources.
  • Informing the directors informed of all financial implications and risks associated with all commissions.
  • Liaise with the client to promptly report any issue arising during the undertaking of the project that has implications either to the brief or the timescale.
  • To liaise and negotiate with local planning and highway authorities including attendance at meetings and public consultation events, as necessary.
  • To have a reasonable understanding of the Planning Appeal process and be able to provide expert guidance to the appeal team, including preparing written evidence, where necessary.
  • To ensure that the company’s Quality Assurance procedures are adhered to on each and every commission.
  • To have a full understanding of local and national planning policies and guidelines insofar as they relate to transportation and development.

Key Skills & Experience:

You will be expected to have excellent written and oral communication skills and able to delegate work and supervise and mentor more junior members of the team. This role would require at least 5 years relevant experience at a consultancy or local authority.

You will have excellent knowledge of the key principles and techniques of transportation planning and traffic engineering, as well as the ability to use the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including TRICS, CAD and swept path analysis.

Ideally you will be educated to HND or degree level within a relevant field such as Transport Planning.

This role will require a full UK driving licence.

Personal Attributes:

  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Good team player and leader within an organisation.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
  • Commitment to producing high quality work and to promoting the reputation of the company.
  • Excellent focus on continuous professional development.
  • Commitment to SCP’s policy of equal opportunity and to work harmoniously with colleagues of all cultures and backgrounds.
