Job Description:

A new vacancy for a Principal Transport Planner is now available in Fareham or Cambridge to join a large development planning focused Transport Planning team. They are looking for an experienced Transport Planner with at least 7 years experience.

You will be able to demonstrate leadership by managing your own Transport Planning team, collaborating with others to secure new projects across sectors such as residential, commercial, infrastructure, and sports & leisure.

It will be your responsibility to lead and train your team of transport planners, ensuring quality assurance and technical output. You will liaise with stakeholders and clients daily, working with the Associates to identify new revenue streams and ensure timely, within-budget project delivery.

Principal Transport Planner Requirements

• Degree level qualification or equivalent experience
• Membership of a professional organization, e.g., CIHT
• At least 7 years of transport planning experience
• Extensive practical and theoretical knowledge in transport planning
• Experience in managing and training staff
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to prioritize workload and delegate tasks
• Experience with computer-based systems including Microsoft Office
• Ability to work independently

Additional Responsibilities

• Write, review, and approve technical reports such as Transport Assessments, Statements, and Travel Plans
• Understanding of modelling packages and methodologies for trip generation and distribution
• Support and approve technical drawings where appropriate
• Prepare appeal documentation and act as expert witness at hearings and inquiries
• Manage projects, including budgeting and scheduling
• Client liaison and management
• Mentor and train team members for career development
• Lead meetings and contribute to team strategies
• Prepare fee proposals and tenders
• Identify business development opportunities through networking
• Develop KPIs and team strategies
• Manage team performance and conduct appraisals
• Assist with project coverage and team support as needed
