The type of work we undertake is varied and includes:

  • Reporting to Associate Directors in the Transport Planning team in Newcastle or Edinburgh, supporting the delivery of Transport and Traffic project tasks for Infrastructure Projects, including Development Consent Orders in the Energy and Industrial sectors across the UK.
  • Undertaking Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, and Travel Plans, including client and local authority scoping discussions.
  • Leading technical discussions on site accessibility for various modes, and articulating impacts and mitigations for planning approvals.
  • Working in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with noise, air quality, ecology, and highway teams.
  • Owning delegated tasks like preparing estimates and proposals for review by Project Directors.
  • Prioritizing weekly tasks based on project demands and supporting team workload management.
  • Upskilling to work across other transport workstreams such as communications and engagement.
  • Representing WSP values in a collaborative client/consultant environment.
  • Staying updated with relevant standards and policies; networking and attending conferences.
  • Ensuring project delivery within budget, schedule, and technical standards, depending on experience.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…

  • Experience as lead author of Scoping Reports, Transport Assessments, and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters.
  • Experience in delivering diverse transport planning projects across sectors like development planning, energy, industrial, highway schemes, sustainable transport, active travel, junction design, and knowledge of relevant standards.
  • Experience in preparing Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies, transport feasibility studies, option assessments, and business case inputs.
  • Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills; proficient in MS Office.
  • Ability to produce high-standard technical reports and communicate technical arguments effectively to varied audiences.
  • Technical and task leadership skills across multiple projects and clients.
  • Knowledge of current transport policies at various levels.
  • Ability to develop and upskill staff locally and across the UK and overseas.
  • Good understanding of financial and contractual aspects of planning and delivering projects.
  • If not already achieved, candidates should work towards professional accreditation.
