Senior Town Planner / Principal Town Planner

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Town Planner or Principal Town Planner to join a respected multi-disciplinary consultancy based in Yeovil. With a strong reputation for delivering thoughtful, design-led planning solutions across the South West, this is an excellent role for a motivated planner ready to take the next step in their career.

About the Role
As a Senior Town Planner, you will take a lead role in managing a varied portfolio of projects including residential, commercial, heritage, and rural developments. You'll work alongside architects, technologists, and landscape professionals to deliver high-quality planning outcomes, offering strategic and practical planning advice from concept through to approval.

Whether you're already operating at a senior level or are a well-established planner looking to step up, this role will offer autonomy, responsibility, and a genuine opportunity to shape the built environment in a collaborative and creative setting.

Key Responsibilities
·Manage end-to-end planning processes, including pre-application advice, full applications, appeals, and planning statements
·Act as the key contact for clients, consultants, and local planning authorities
·Undertake detailed site appraisals and provide clear, strategic recommendations
·Represent clients at planning committees and hearings where necessary
·Support junior team members and contribute to a positive team culture
·Assist in business development and the continued growth of the planning department

Requirements
·MRTPI chartered status (or working toward it with substantial experience)
·A minimum of 5 years' UK town planning experience, preferably in a consultancy or multi-disciplinary environment
·Proven experience in managing and delivering a broad range of planning applications
·Excellent communication, report-writing, and negotiation skills
·A commercial mindset with a strong client focus
·Ability to work independently and as part of a team

This role would suit a confident and knowledgeable Senior Town Planner who enjoys varied work, strategic input, and liaising with design teams and external stakeholders.

Desirable
·Knowledge of planning policy in Somerset and surrounding regions
·Experience with heritage or listed buildings
·An interest in high-quality, sustainable design-led development
