Job Description:

UK (remote or hybrid working)

Competitive salary + benefit package

Our client is a leading consultancy providing professional planning and engineering services to the power sector, supporting the UK's transition to net zero. They plan, design, and deliver major power projects linking renewable sources to major towns and cities.

Specialising in planning, design, and survey of Overhead Lines, Underground Cables, and Substation Systems from LV to EHV in the UK and internationally, they play a critical role in major power infrastructure projects and renewable developments.

The role

Seeking an experienced Principal Planner to lead planning and consenting processes for major projects, including large-scale green energy infrastructure.

This role suits proactive individuals with experience in planning and delivering Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), especially those requiring Development Consent Orders (DCOs) or similar approvals. Experience with linear infrastructure projects is preferred, but candidates with local planning application experience and Section 37 (S.37) consent processes are also considered.

  • Oversee and deliver planning and consenting strategies for renewable energy projects, ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on planning activities to support project success
  • Mentor junior planners and team members to foster a high-performing planning team
  • Implement initiatives from the Operating Board to improve planning processes and operations

This role offers the chance to work on high-profile energy projects contributing to the UK's Net Zero goals, with opportunities for career growth and professional development.

The candidate

Looking for an ambitious individual passionate about green energy.

  • Educated to Masters (preferred) or Bachelors level in Geography, Planning, Environmental Sciences, or similar
  • Member or working towards membership of a relevant Professional Institution (desirable)
  • UK driving licence (or acceptable alternative) required for client meetings
  • Minimum 7 years postgraduate experience in infrastructure/development sector, working on transmission, distribution, or planning schemes
  • Experience in submitting Development Consent Orders (DCO)

This is a great opportunity to join a well-established, high-performing team that values work-life balance. The team has been stable, with senior members averaging over 10 years, and has recently doubled in size to meet increasing workload.

The successful candidate will join a leading multi-disciplinary consultancy in utilities, offering autonomy, respect, and flexibility. The company values individuals and fosters a supportive environment.
