Job summary

Kier Design seeks a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to lead complex temporary works design and management across a broad project portfolio. This role sits within a top-tier contractor environment with agile working patterns and multiple UK locations.

You will mentor teams, provide technical leadership, review third-party designs, and support bid activities to drive safety and buildability across projects.

Job Description

We're looking for a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join our team based in various locations. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor. Join us as a PrincipalTemporary Works Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline – supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

Location: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth – agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

Are you...

• A Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (e.g. CEng MICE) with significant relevant experience, or with substantial relevant experience in construction engineering
• Experienced in leading complex construction engineering services, including temporary works design
• Capable of providing technical leadership and design management across multidisciplinary teams
• Skilled in delivering innovative, buildable solutions that enhance project efficiency

We're seeking a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to lead the delivery of complex construction engineering services across a variety of projects. You'll play a key role in supporting project delivery through temporary works design, bid support, value engineering, and technical leadership. Your day to daywill include:

• Leading temporary works design and checking, integrated with permanent works design where applicable
• Providing tender and bid support through feasibility studies, concept development, and alternative solutions
• Managing design projects, including leading multidisciplinary teams and acting as lead designer
• Reviewing third-party designs to ensure compliance with client and Kier requirements
• Offering technical expertise and advice as part of a centre of engineering excellence, supporting site teams and mentoring staff
