Principal Technical Safety Engineer

Contract: 12 month initial Contract

Our business: As a global leading provider of engineering, procurement and construction management expertise to the energy, chemicals, and resources sectors, we are expanding our UK team and have partnered with Airswift to support our recruitment plans.

We are recruiting a Principal Technical Safety Engineer for our team in Aberdeen. The role supports traditional Oil & Gas projects and LPG projects, focusing on technical safety design aspects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure HSE aspects of the design meet standards and legislation.
  2. Conduct hazard identification, risk assessment, and quantification.
  3. Review safety engineering requirements for projects.
  4. Develop risk and consequence models for hydrocarbon production and flammable gas processing plants (Offshore and Onshore).
  5. Provide advice on risk reduction, mitigation, and safety engineering to project teams.
  6. Ensure technical assurance across safety and loss prevention activities.
  7. Lead and coordinate activities and deliverables per project schedule.
  8. Gather and compile process safety and environmental information; prepare safety plans and basis of design documents.
  9. Execute hazard studies and participate in safety reviews and hazard operability studies.
  10. Facilitate technical safety reviews and recommend additional reviews if needed.
  11. Ensure designs demonstrate ALARP principles.
  12. Maintain proper documentation at each project phase.

Additional Skills and Attributes:

  • Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Chartered or Professional accreditation.
  • Proven experience in risk and safety engineering roles.
  • Experience in technical audits, hazard identification, risk assessment, and mitigation techniques.
  • Proficient in report writing and database development using MS Office tools.
  • Experience across the energy industry, including offshore and onshore hydrocarbons, chemical plants, and sustainability projects (CCUS, H2, etc.).
