Midlothian Council is seeking a qualified teacher for a full-time, permanent position at Mayfield Primary School. The role involves supporting diverse students and requires registration with GTCS and completion of pre-employment checks. The salary for this position is £55,155. It is a permanent, full-time role. Currently, Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 with nurseries), and 2 standalone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioral, and learning difficulties. The schools vary in size from around 20 to over 1200 pupils, serving diverse catchments from rural to urban areas. We have a growing number of new build schools, with 15 primary and 1 secondary school built in the last 10 years, and more planned.
Interviews will take place during the week commencing 25th August 2025.
Pre-Employment Checks: Successful applicants will need to complete medical screening, provide two references (one from their most recent employer), verify qualifications, and demonstrate eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a satisfactory PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are also required.
Registration and PVG Scheme: Teachers applying for permanent positions must be registered with GTCS. The post is considered Regulated Work with Children under the PVG scheme. Applicants will need to join the scheme or update their existing membership before starting employment, with costs deducted from salary over specified periods. Existing employees will have the costs covered by the Council.
Disclosure of Offenses: Applicants must disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Failure to disclose may result in withdrawal of the job offer. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify an applicant; suitability depends on the offense and circumstances.
