Job summary

NHS England is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to provide hands-on engineering leadership for national, highly available distributed systems. You will drive engineering maturity, guide technical direction, and collaborate across the organisation to deliver reliable services that impact patient care.

The role includes shared on-call responsibilities, exposure to national-scale systems, and opportunities to influence architecture and security controls for large volumes of sensitive data.

Responsibilities

• hands-on engineering and technical leadership for national, highly available distributed systems
• leadership in engineering improvement initiatives across the directorate/organisation
• represent System Engineering practice at senior level within the business area
• act as initial escalation point for key technical issues and provide direction
• support Lead/Senior Systems Engineers to ensure products have a clear technical vision
• engage stakeholders and delivery partners to ensure coordinated work and new partnership opportunities
