Job summary

Viasat UK is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead the technical definition and delivery of our advanced security devices across multiple projects. You will work with electronics, FPGA, software and mechanical engineers from concept to deployment.

This high-visibility role requires 7+ years in defence/space, strong system lifecycle experience, and the ability to own architecture end-to-end while collaborating with defence customers.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in defence/aerospace/space delivering physical electronic/software products.
• A degree in Engineering, Electronic Design, Computer Science, Physics or related field.
• Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle: requirements, design, architecture and verification.
• Strong ability to communicate with hardware, software, FPGA and mechanical teams.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority for product features and system behavior.
• Lead requirements elicitation and management using tools like IBM DOORS.
• Guide the development team through the product lifecycle and mitigate risks.
• Oversee verification, validation and environmental qualification processes.
• Produce robust engineering estimates for bids and proposals.
• Engage with defence customers to clarify requirements and ensure product fit.
