Job Title:

Principal Systems Engineer (full time or part time available)

Salary:

Up to £70,600 per annum dependent upon experience + 10% bonus

Chelmsford, Portsmouth, or Cowes, Isle of Wight

Job Description:

Join one of the world’s leading global defence, security, and aerospace companies as a Principal Systems Engineer. The role is based in Chelmsford, Portsmouth, or Cowes on the Isle of Wight, with on-site work required daily. Flexible working hours and part-time options are available to suit individual needs.

Work at the forefront of technology, creating over 100 new inventions annually for customers in more than 100 countries. Collaborate within a multidisciplinary radar team to develop and evolve radar products addressing emerging threats in Future Air Dominance.

This position offers opportunities for skill enhancement and career development within a global organization, including growth in contemporary radar techniques and technical leadership roles. Hybrid and flexible working arrangements are supported, with regular on-site presence due to security requirements.

If based on the Isle of Wight, the Cowes site is accessible via a regular ferry and shuttle service from Southampton.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative solutions for complex Multi-Function Radar Systems facing evolving technical challenges
  • Apply Systems Engineering principles to guide and develop technical solutions, ensuring governance and quality standards
  • Conduct system design analysis, manage trade-offs, and specify robust product designs
  • Decompose requirements at system and sub-system levels, managing them in tools like IBM DOORS Next
  • Lead holistic system analysis, design decisions, and provide technical guidance to the team
  • Coordinate with electronics, electrical, mechanical, and software specialists to realize system solutions
  • Plan and execute system integration and testing
  • Define system acceptance strategies and demonstrate performance to stakeholders

Candidate Requirements:
  • Understanding of signal processing, target tracking, object classification algorithms, and resource optimization
  • Knowledge of factors affecting sensing system performance and measurement accuracy
  • Experience with Systems Engineering standards (e.g., ISO 15288)
  • Ability to present technical and non-technical information effectively

Eligibility: Must be eligible for SC clearance, hold a British passport, and have lived and worked in the UK for the past 5 years.
