Job Title: Principal Systems Engineer

Location: Barrow – We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.

Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Understand and interpret the User Needs, Concept of Operations, and Concept of Use, and be able to derive the technical and functional requirements for the Computerised Information System (CIS)
  • Provide specialist knowledge and subject matter expertise to develop the functional and physical architecture for CIS
  • Manage and deliver design studies to develop or de-risk technologies to evolve the functional performance and capability of CIS
  • Produce technical design documentation to define the CIS design baseline and lead key decision meetings associated with the CIS design
  • Provide specialist technical support to the planning and definition of platform installation, integration activities and commissioning activities

Your skills and experiences:

  • Knowledge of key lifecycle phases including requirements, system design, and system integration and acceptance
  • SME Domain experience developing naval communication systems and products
  • Experience in data processing and analysis software, in the maritime, defence and/or commercial domains and their delivery into platform build programmes
  • STEM related degree or equivalent experience within the aerospace/defence/marine environment
  • Experience managing and liaising with senior Stakeholders
  • Robust awareness of product safety, product security and SHE

The Combat Systems Team:

The CIS Principal Engineer will be responsible for managing the overall engineering lifecycle from requirements elicitation through to system deployment and operation. You will also apply your subject matter expertise and domain experience to systems engineering practices, supporting the Engineering Manager. You will have opportunities to directly liaise with Senior Internal and External Stakeholders, and for self-development and opportunities, to build yourself a lasting career with BAE Systems.
