Job summary

Safran Engineering Services in Gloucester, United Kingdom, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead aircraft landing gear systems development on a six-month contract. The role features a 37-hour week and an Inside IR35 designation, with start as soon as possible.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of aircraft landing gear systems (ATA32).
  • Experience in systems engineering with ARP4754 and ARP4761.
  • Hydromechanical/hydropneumatics experience is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of airworthiness requirements and certification.
  • Experience with requirements management, validation and verification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure development of aircraft landing gear systems complies with customer needs and regulations.
  • Define system development plans and capture requirements across system levels.
  • Manage equipment supplier relationships for actuators, hoses and harnessing.
  • Lead senior and junior systems engineers.
  • Set up and maintain requirements management tools (IBM DOORS).
  • Prepare documentation including DDP dossiers and validation matrices.

Description

In order to develop and expand the capabilities of our engineering business, we are looking to recruit a Principal Systems Engineer to work on aircraft landing gear systems. The contract duration is six months, with a standard workweek of 37 hours and located in Gloucester.

Military clearance is not required for this role. The anticipated start date is as soon as possible.

As a Systems Engineer, you will:

  • Ensure that the development of aircraft landing gear systems (structures, extension/retraction systems, hydraulics, electrical harnesses) is compliant with customer needs and compliant with regulations, following the Safran system development process
  • Focus on the definition of the system development plan, capture and analysis of needs, the generation of system, sub-systems and equipment requirements, requirements validation and product verification
  • Be responsible for management of equipment suppliers, such as actuators, hydraulic hoses and electrical harnessing

Key aspects of this job include the following:

  • In collaboration with Systems Architecture Integration team, supporting the definition of systems development plans, in accordance with Safran processes, which align with ARP4754.
  • Ensure adherence to systems development plans
  • Manage requirements definition, from capture and analysis of customer, regulatory and internal needs at system, sub-systems and equipment level
  • Manage the validation of requirements in collaboration with requirement owners from the validation planning phase, through implementation of validation means to documenting validation evidence
  • Manage product verification, from the verification planning phase, through coordination of verification means to documenting verification evidence
  • Set up and maintaining requirements management tools, e.g. IBM DOORS classic & DOORS NG
  • Compile systems engineering related documentation (requirements documentation, description documents, validation and verification matrices and Declaration of Design Performance (DDP) dossiers
  • Specification writing for Aircraft Landing Gear equipment such as, hydraulic actuators, hydraulic hoses and electrical harnesses
  • Technical liaison with equipment suppliers
  • Leadership of senior and junior systems engineers
Requirements

Knowledge of aircraft landing gear systems (ATA32)

Knowledge of Systems Engineering principles

Experience of mechanical engineering and hydraulics (Actuators & Hoses)

Hydromechanical / hydropneumatics experience is mandatory

Knowledge of airworthiness requirements and certification

Experience of systems engineering theory together with a familiarity with ARP4754 and ARP 4761

Experience of requirements management, validation, verification and preferably DOORS

Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering is an advance

Ability to review engineering documents such as (Reports, Analysis, Specifications and Requirements docs etc..). Previous engineering signatory held.

Ability to write technical reports clearly and accurately

Ability and willingness to communicate and work with all disciplines of engineering

Good verbal and written communication skills and general computer literacy
