ENSEK has become the go-to option for top energy suppliers across the globe. Why? Because our technology represents a significant step change away from the legacy systems that have historically dominated the market. It’s also substantially cheaper to adopt the ENSEK solution, with no loss in customer service or standards.

But the biggest reason why ENSEK is the best choice in energy supplier software is because of the people who work here and their endless enthusiasm, energy, and support for their colleagues. All our clients comment on the great people we have. Our people are our superpower.

This is where you come in.

ROLE SUMMARY

This role works in partnership with the tribe’s Product Architects and Core Platform to define standards that govern how the tribe’s software is built. It supports the tribe’s squads by providing training, technical surgeries, mentoring, and ad-hoc support as needed.

The role ensures the codebase continues to meet required standards through creating technical debt backlog items and collaborating with Product Owners to prioritize tech-debt work into squad backlogs or implementing them directly.

It involves research, building proof of concepts, scaffolds, and frameworks to support the tribe’s long-term goals.

The role is a leading voice in the Engineering Chapter, sharing knowledge and establishing best practices across peers and thought leaders in the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Tribe Engineering Manager, the Principal Software Engineer is responsible for:

  • Leading 2-3 squads or a domain impacting multiple squads as a go-to person and influential leader.
  • Providing technical authority and setting examples to challenge mindsets and behaviors when necessary.
  • Driving positive change within the team and ensuring positive interactions across the business and with third-party stakeholders.
  • Delivering a software engineering standard for the tribe and strategizing the evolution of the current codebase to meet that standard.
  • Ensuring the tribe’s output aligns with standards required by the Core Platform.
  • Collaborating with Product Architects to incorporate their requirements and vision into the codebase structure and capabilities.
  • Maintaining a consistent, high-quality approach to software engineering across all squads.
  • Proactively identifying high-risk PBIs to improve PR acceptance rates and engaging with engineers early.
  • Supporting Lead Engineers by resolving blockers and guiding sprint work delivery.
  • Ensuring PR reviews provide adequate quality assurance in collaboration with Lead Engineers.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

  • Experience empowering and working within large teams of software engineers.
  • Proven coaching and mentoring skills in personal and professional development.
  • Extensive experience working with large, complex codebases.

SOFT SKILLS:

  • Ability to understand the bigger business picture and make decisions with long-term impact.
  • Effective at engaging others in mindset, behaviors, and ways of working changes.
  • Highly organized, with a structured approach to work prioritization.
  • Valuing teamwork and experience working remotely within a multidisciplinary team is advantageous.
  • Approachable, strong communicator with the ability to listen, influence, persuade, and present to senior stakeholders.
