Role: Principal Software & Controls Engineer

Hybrid model: 3 days on site in Buckinghamshire & 2 days remote

Salary: Up to £75,000 + Bonus + Benefits

We are currently recruiting for a client in Buckinghamshire specializing in motor design, inverter hardware, and software for the automotive industry.

The client seeks a Principal Software & Controls Engineer to work on advanced motor control technology and serve as the lead technical authority on motor control systems.

As a Principal Software & Controls Engineer, you will contribute to all project phases, including requirements, design, implementation, testing, and integration.

The ideal candidate will challenge norms and push the boundaries of quality and innovation across products.

Desired experience / skills

  • Minimum 5 years in automotive or aerospace fields
  • Experience in model-based control strategies
  • Strong background with complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Experience with passenger car and motorsport inverter systems
  • Knowledge of V-cycle system design and development
  • Motor control algorithms, FOC, SVM, sensorless algorithms
  • Control algorithms for real-time embedded systems in automotive applications
  • Software testing: unit and integration
  • Understanding of automotive HV systems
  • Experience with AUTOSAR standards and development
  • Familiarity with real-time OS, J1587, J1939, ISO14229 protocols
  • Knowledge of ASPICE & MISRA-C standards

Responsibilities

  • Develop control software for inverter systems and hybrid vehicles
  • Create, test, and validate control algorithms in MATLAB & Simulink and C
  • Follow industry best practices like ASPICE, MISRA-C
  • Mentor junior team members
  • Serve as SME for inverter control topics
  • Develop safety-critical software per ISO26262 & DO-178 standards
  • Integrate algorithms with embedded software
  • Validate control algorithms through various testing methods
  • Support hardware testing and data analysis
  • Manage software changes and releases using GIT
  • Collaborate with teams and customers on controls and software issues
  • Participate in design reviews and maintain detailed records
  • Support hardware commissioning and testing
  • Automate processes and develop tools as needed
