RPS is looking for a skilled and motivated Utility Engineer at either Principal or Senior level to join our dynamic team.

The successful candidate will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive utility consultancy services for development projects. This position requires a proactive approach to assessing utility requirements, managing relationships with service providers and ensuring the successful execution of utility strategies.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Conduct load assessments to determine utility service capacity requirements for gas, water, and electricity.
  • Evaluate the need for disconnections and diversions due to new developments and road layouts.
  • Collate existing utility company service record drawings and obtain 'as fitted' drawings of the site where applicable.
  • Undertake below-ground utility location mapping to identify existing services and potential conflicts.
  • Develop detailed load schedules and produce multi-utility services drawings that present a site-wide utilities strategy.
  • Obtain firm quotations from relevant utility suppliers for proposed works and manage commercial negotiations with network operators.
  • Review and analyse information to provide technical insights and considerations for project development.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their sustainability aspirations and incorporate these into the overall energy strategy.
  • Identify opportunities to remove constraints from sites and propose alternative solutions as needed.
  • Maintain exceptional relationships with utility operators and engage directly to facilitate project requirements.

Who We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in utility consultancy or a similar engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of utility services, including gas, water, and electricity.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with clients and utility providers.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for utility mapping and design.
