Job description

Our world-leading Laboratory is seeking a Data Scientist with experience in Biometrics.

As a Data Scientist, you will collaborate as part of a team to develop innovative solutions to societal and national challenges. This role offers scope to develop new collaborations across NPL, government, industry, and academia. You will develop, apply, and share knowledge with colleagues, collaborators, and the wider scientific community.

Responsibilities include researching biometrics and applying machine learning methods to specific problems, as well as aspects of quality management, risk management, testing, and assessment of machine learning algorithms and AI systems.

You will join a community of Data Scientists working on AI, Machine Learning, Synthetic Data, and Biometrics projects, with opportunities for internal projects across NPL focusing on various metrology applications.

Essential Experience:
  • A degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or relevant science or engineering discipline, with postdoctoral experience and a research track record
  • Experience in Biometrics research and operational aspects
  • Research experience and ability to drive ideas forward collaboratively
  • Experimental data analysis, including trial design and data analysis
  • Deep knowledge of machine learning and deep learning methods, with practical application proficiency
  • Testing and assessment of machine learning algorithms and AI systems
  • Proficiency in Python or MATLAB
  • Ability to develop technical roadmaps and strategies
  • Interest and involvement in standards
  • Experience dealing with customers
  • Uncertainty quantification skills
