Job description

Principal Scientist (Biochemistry/Enzymology)

Join to apply for the Principal Scientist (Biochemistry/Enzymology) role at Cancer Research UK (CRUK).

This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead biochemical assay design, prosecution, and analysis within our Drug Discovery team, based at the Babraham Research Campus in Cambridge or the Scotland Institute in Glasgow.

About the Role

As a Principal Scientist, you will drive innovative approaches in biochemical assays, contribute to our 5-year strategic plan, and collaborate with industry and academic partners to advance cancer research and therapy development.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop physiologically relevant biochemical assays for cancer targets.
  2. Characterize mechanisms of action of small molecules and inform dose prediction and clinical efficacy.
  3. Keep abreast of cutting-edge cellular pharmacology techniques and approaches.
  4. Present research findings at conferences, publish papers, and participate in scientific discussions.
  5. Provide scientific leadership and strategic direction within the team.
Qualifications
  • A BSc, MSc, or PhD in biochemistry or in vitro pharmacology; relevant experience may substitute for educational qualifications.
  • Significant experience in enzyme and small molecule inhibitor mechanisms within a drug discovery environment.
  • Understanding of enzymology, biochemical assays, and detection technologies.
  • Experience in assay development for various target classes.
  • Proven scientific leadership and external reputation through publications and conference presentations.
Additional Information
