Copello is recruiting for a Principal Safety Engineer to join a defence organisation, supporting critical submarine programmes. This role offers the chance to work on highly complex defence projects, ensuring safety compliance and risk mitigation across multiple systems.

Please note that due to the sensitivity of this programme, you must be a sole British citizen and be eligible for Security Clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain Safety Reports and Safety Management Plans, including Safety Case documentation.
  • Conduct Hazard Identification and Hazard Analysis to assess and reduce risks.
  • Lead and mentor safety teams, ensuring best practices are followed.
  • Provide safety assessment expertise for UK submarine programmes, working with both the SDA and industry partners.
  • Develop Nuclear Safety Design Justifications (NSDJ) and Design Safety Justification Plans (DSJP).
  • Undertake Weapons, Ordnance, Munitions & Explosives (WOME) and Strategic Weapons Systems safety evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with UK safety legislation, conducting thorough regulatory assessments.
  • Work within MOD frameworks, collaborating with DE&S and following ASEMS guidelines.
  • Support the delivery of complex defence projects, managing multiple safety considerations.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Extensive experience in safety engineering on submarine programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear safety standards and weapons system safety.
  • Familiarity with MOD safety processes, including ASEMS.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and manage safety-critical projects.
