Job summary

Cititec partners with a leading global commodities trading company to recruit a Principal Risk Engineer for a London-based, hybrid, 12-month outside IR35 contract. The role focuses on delivering and evolving CTRM and risk technology capabilities, steering onboarding of new CTRMs and platforms, and providing senior technical leadership.

You will lead a small technology team and collaborate with trading, risk and technology stakeholders to drive real-time risk, scalability and performance,

Qualifications

• Experience in commodities trading, CTRM or risk tech.
• Strong knowledge of trading workflows and market risk.
• Proven track record leading technical teams.
• Comfortable with senior stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with real-time risk or cloud-native tech would help.

Cititec has partnered with a leading global commodities trading company, who are looking to bring a Principal Risk Engineer into their London team.

This is a senior technology leadership position within the Risk Technology function, with responsibility for the firm's risk technology landscape, playing an important part in the longer-term evolution towards a more real-time, automated and scalable risk platform, working closely with senior technology, trading and risk stakeholders.

What you’ll do:

• Own the delivery and evolution of critical CTRM and risk technology capabilities.
• Lead the onboarding, integration and implementation of new CTRMs and related platforms.
• Provide senior technical leadership across risk technology initiatives.
• Lead and develop a small team of highly capable technology professionals.
• Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical and operational issues.
• Collaborate closely with trading, risk, technology and business stakeholders.
• Drive improvements across platform scalability, automation, reliability and performance.
• Contribute to the evolution towards real-time risk and next-generation risk technology.
• Help define the technology roadmap and bridge existing CTRM capabilities with future-state platforms.
• Work closely with engineers and architects across Python, C++, data and cloud technologies.

Requirements:

• Significant experience within commodities trading, financial markets, CTRM or risk technology.
• Strong understanding of trading workflows, trade lifecycle and market risk.
• Proven experience implementing, integrating or onboarding complex CTRM or risk platforms.
• Strong technical background with experience across areas such as Python, APIs, databases, data platforms and distributed systems.
• Experience leading, mentoring or managing technical teams.
• Ability to operate comfortably between detailed technical discussions and senior stakeholder engagement.
• Strong understanding of scalable, high-performance technology environments.
• Experience working closely with trading, risk and technology teams.
• Exposure to real-time risk, cloud-native architecture or high-performance data processing would be beneficial.
• Experience with technologies such as Python, C++, ClickHouse or Iceberg would be advantageous.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, pragmatic approach.
