Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated scientist to join our Pharmacology and Cell Biology group within Discovery Psychiatry. The ideal candidate will have strong psychiatry and drug discovery experience and will work cross functionally to help identify new psychiatry targets and drive validation and progression efforts. The incumbent will use their expertise to generate new scientific proposals, critically evaluate relevant scientific literature and integrate this knowledge into research and development programs. This is an excellent opportunity to work at the forefront of psychiatric research as part of a dynamic and growing team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in cross-functional teams to drive strategy for novel target ID and target prioritization
  • Oversee the development of target validation plans and monitor progress
  • May serve as the project lead responsible for coordinating cross-functional activities and representing team at governance forums from Hit through Candidate Nomination
  • Identify and solve technical problems independently, implement new assays and workflows, conceive and implement innovative research ideas
  • Supervise junior scientists providing scientific and technical leadership in the design and execution of experiments, and be accountable for the effective performance of the team
  • Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
  • Collaborate with colleagues at various AbbVie and external sites
  • Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co-author peer-reviewed scientific papers or patents

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or equivalent education and extensive, Typically, 14+ years of experience; MS or equivalent education with typically 12+ years of experience; PhD with typically 6+ years of experience in area or scientific area of discipline.
  • Strong background in psychiatry research and drug development, including understanding of cutting edge in vitro and/or in vivo models
  • Proven track record in target validation, drug discovery and preclinical progression
  • Experience in working in multidisciplinary teams to accomplish strategic goals
  • Experience managing direct reports, including providing performance evaluations and development opportunities
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment
  • Candidate must be a goal-oriented team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong “can-do” attitude

Qualifications:

  • Prior project and team leadership in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry
  • Experience in target ID and prioritization
