Job Description

Operation PDST Biological Development at AbbVie is seeking a highly motivated Principal Scientist with expertise in early and late-stage biological pipeline cell line development and genetic characterization. The role involves leading the Molecular Biology team at the AbbVie Bioresearch Center (ABC) in Worcester, MA, a unique site combining biologics drug discovery, development, and manufacturing.

The leader will oversee asset transition from discovery to development, vector construct development, cell line development, cell bank genetic characterization and qualification, and modernization of molecular biology methods through innovation. Experience with cutting-edge technologies such as NGS, Omics, AI/ML, automation, and digitalization is preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement discipline strategies aligned with scientific objectives and ensure successful asset transition from discovery to development.
• Lead the development and genetic characterization of cell lines and cell banks across pipeline stages.
• Identify and apply advanced technologies to accelerate pipeline programs.
• Provide strategic and scientific guidance to the molecular biology team.
• Conduct laboratory research independently, troubleshooting as needed.
• Promote innovative solutions and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
• Manage multiple projects within a dynamic team environment.
• Present scientific data to leadership and partners, maximizing impact.
• Advance scientific expertise and mentor colleagues to meet business challenges.

Qualifications:

• BS with 14+ years, MS with 12+ years, or PhD with 6+ years in Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, or related fields.
• Strong collaboration skills and experience with diverse groups.
• Broad experience in cell line development and contribution to drug candidate development.
• Expertise in molecular biology techniques, especially plasmid construction and genetic analysis.
• Proven innovation in methods and workflows.
• High attention to quality, documentation, and communication.
