Job description

Principal Psychologist – Llanelli ***Welcome Bonus £6000***(Subject to T&C’S)

“The salary for this role will be reviewed once the NHS release their 2024/25 Agenda for Change (AfC)”

Hours: Flexible working hours available.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Principal Psychologist in neurorehabilitation to join us and help change the lives of people living with acquired brain injury (ABI).

We are seeking a Principal Psychologist capable of ensuring the provision and development of high quality, innovative and evidence-based neuropsychological rehabilitation practice.

Brainkind is a charity that aims to improve the lives of people with brain injuries in the UK. Our assessment centres, rehabilitation units, and hospitals use expert neurorehabilitation to support people to regain the skills they have lost. We treat people with a range of brain injuries – sustained through trauma, illness, substance abuse, and more – to recover and meet their personal goals. Our employees are incredibly passionate about the jobs they do – you’ll find a strong team spirit across our services and amazing colleagues who always pull together and look out for each other.

The Role:

Brainkind is looking for a Principal Psychologist who wants to develop their experience by working in our highly regarded service at TY Aberdafen. Ty Aberdafen works with people who have to cope with a range of cognitive, physical, and/or emotional symptoms following a severe brain injury. Rehabilitation is based on a neurobehavioral approach and focuses on enabling service users to function more independently and to participate in as many of their previous roles and activities as possible while developing their lives with privacy, dignity, and respect.

You will provide strategic, professional leadership to the multi-disciplinary rehabilitation team, which includes Assistant Psychologists, Rehabilitation Support Workers, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Speech and Language Therapists.

Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Ensuring the provision and development of high quality, innovative, and evidence-based neuropsychological rehabilitation practice.
  2. Providing specialist psychological assessment of our service users, using psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report scales, structured observations, and interviews; formulating and implementing specialist psychological treatment plans for mental health and adjustment difficulties based on a multi-factorial psychological understanding and current evidence-based best practice.
  3. Contributing highly specialist psychological advice to the multi-disciplinary formulation of appropriate therapeutic approaches or intervention plans, and supervising their implementation.
  4. Undertaking psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant service users and advising team members appropriately.
  5. Participating in multidisciplinary team meetings concerned with the delivery and development of clinical services; supporting Service Managers/Regional Managers in all aspects of managing the service and reporting to the Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist.

About you:

What are we looking for?

  1. The successful applicant will have a doctorate in clinical psychology (or equivalent) accredited by the BPS. It is essential that you are able to gather, analyse, and interpret complex multi-factorial clinical information, and formulate this so as to effectively direct team working.
  2. We are looking for an individual who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deal with complex and emotive subjects.
  3. You will have excellent organisation skills, the ability to prioritise workloads, the ability to administer and interpret a range of psychometric tests, and a track record of conducting clinical research or audit.
  4. We are looking for a clinical psychologist with experience in neurorehabilitation, an interest in neuropsychology, and motivated to develop an excellent service further.

Rewards:

  1. A salary of £58,972 – £68,525 DOE
  2. 38 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) (pro rata)
  3. Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  4. Excellent training and support
  5. Company Pension
  6. Long service and staff awards
  7. Nationwide employee staff discounts incl. eating out and shopping
  8. Blue Light Card: provides those in the NHS, emergency services, social care sector, and armed forces with discounts online and in-store.

All clinical roles have CPD opportunities and we may support further professional development.
