Priory Hospital Nelson House in Gosport, Hampshire is a rehabilitation service delivering level 1 and 2 care for males with complex mental health needs. We are seeking a Principal Psychologist to lead the psychology service with clinical governance and supervision across the MDT.

You will provide senior clinical leadership, oversee assessments, formulations and treatment planning, and drive service development while ensuring recovery‑focused, evidence‑based practice within Priory standards.

Qualifications

• Recognised postgraduate qualification in Psychology meeting HCPC requirements.
• Currently HCPC registered as a Practitioner Psychologist.
• Formal training in at least two therapeutic modalities.
• Post-qualification experience and competencies for Principal Psychologist.

Responsabilités

• Provide senior clinical leadership within the psychology service and ensure high-quality assessments and interventions.
• Lead assessment, formulation and treatment planning for complex cases with a recovery focus.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on risk management, care planning and discharge planning.
• Provide clinical supervision and guidance to psychology and wider clinical teams.
• Drive development and continuous improvement of psychological services in line with governance and Priory standards.

Priory Hospital Nelson House, Gosport, Hampshire is a rehabilitation service offering level 1 and level 2 care for males with mental health conditions and complex needs, including behaviours that challenge and substance misuse issues. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along Rowner Road and Portsmouth Harbour railway station approximately 3-4 miles from the service.

What you'll be doing

As a Principal Psychologist, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping psychological care and improving outcomes for patients with complex mental health needs. Combining specialist clinical expertise with strong leadership, you'll drive evidence-based practice, support the development of your team and help deliver compassionate, recovery-focused care.

• Provide senior clinical leadership within the psychology service, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based psychological assessments and interventions.
• Lead the assessment, formulation and treatment planning for patients with complex mental health needs, ensuring care is personalised and recovery focused.
• Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, contributing psychological expertise to risk management, care planning, clinical reviews and discharge planning.
• Provide clinical supervision, consultation and guidance to the psychology and wider clinical teams, promoting best practice and professional development.
• Drive the development and continuous improvement of psychological services at Priory Hospital, ensuring practice aligns with clinical governance, safeguarding requirements and Priory standards.

Essential for the Role

Applicants must hold a recognised postgraduate qualification in Psychology that meets the requirements for HCPC registration and must be currently registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist. Candidates should have formal training in at least two therapeutic modalities, alongside relevant post-qualification experience and the clinical competencies required to work at Principal Psychologist level. This position is not suitable for newly qualified psychologists or applicants who are not yet HCPC registered.

Salary – £58,250 per annum FTE

Part-time – 22.5 Hours

We are seeking a Principal Psychologist to join the team on a part-time basis, working 22.5 hours per week. The actual salary for these hours is £34,950 per annum.
