Job description

Principal Procurement Specialist

Location: Glasgow

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

Our work ensures Scotland's water flows from reservoirs to taps and from sewer to treatment plant, making a difference for the people of Scotland. We are seeking a Principal Procurement Specialist to join our team.

If you are a procurement professional aiming to work within a CIPS Platinum accredited team, delivering valuable services with tangible economic and environmental benefits for Scotland, we would love to hear from you.

What you’ll do

Scottish Water is preparing for significant procurement activities during SR27, our next investment period, with an investment of approximately £5.0 to 8.7 billion over six years. We are exploring new supply chain management approaches, digital innovations, and partnership ecosystems to meet our strategic goals.

You will collaborate with your procurement colleagues to ensure Scottish Water has access to necessary goods and services at the right time, quality, and value for money for Scottish taxpayers.

Risk management is vital to our procurement strategy. You will monitor, manage, and make visible structural, ethical, local, and global supply chain risks to support a sustainable and agile supply chain.

We plan major changes to our partnership delivery approach. You will help maintain a fit-for-purpose supply chain through strategic alignment with our partners and ecosystems.

Continuous learning and development are encouraged. Our Procurement Team is renowned for promotional opportunities and nurturing talented individuals to grow within the organization.

What you’ll bring

You should have a proven track record in procurement delivery, ideally within Utilities, Public Sector, or Construction sectors.

Given managing a large-scale contract portfolio with a team managing £1.30 billion annually, strong commercial and analytical skills are essential.

Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders and suppliers at all levels is required.

A proactive, 'can-do' attitude and energy are crucial for delivering high-quality results swiftly.

Professional qualification at MCIPS level is preferred, or you are working towards it. Support for exams will be provided if you are studying.

A valid UK driving license (DVLA-issued) is essential, as site visits may be required.

Looking out for you

This is a full-time role, working 35 hours per week, with 38 days of holiday annually (including public holidays), plus the option to buy five additional days. We support work-life balance through flexible working arrangements.

We offer a pension scheme, life assurance, an annual bonus, and access to SW Splash rewards for savings on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role is Grade 8, with a salary range of £48,900 to £68,510, depending on experience. Performance-based pay progression and annual pay awards are available.

The role operates in a flexible/hybrid model, with team meetings every Wednesday and every second Monday at our Stepps office. Site visits to other Scottish Water locations are expected.

Applications are accepted until midnight on 8th May 2025, with interviews planned for Glasgow in May. Please upload a CV and cover letter explaining your interest in Scottish Water and this role.

Offers are conditional, pending pre-employment checks, including references, criminal record, and license verifications, conducted after acceptance of an offer.
