Job description

Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting for a Principal Process Engineer to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).

The 330km SPA Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. An additional 260km of water transfer pipelines and infrastructure are also planned for delivery in AMP8.

What will you be doing as our new Principal Process Engineer?

Provide innovative designs that deliver value for money and act as a proactive problem-solver by applying engineering principles. Lead the review of mandates, and prepare scope, methodology, programme, and resource estimates for the design stage and support during construction.

You will be embedded within the SPA delivery team, responsible for a section of the design output, monitoring workload, and liaising with mechanical, electrical engineers, Design Leads, and other disciplines. You will work alongside the Process Lead to develop and understand system-wide performance of pipelines and assets, ensuring designs interact effectively with existing AWS systems.

Your role includes developing water quality design proposals, obtaining client approval, and providing information for key scheme gateways.

Key responsibilities:
  • Process design of clean water pumping stations, dosing packages, and control systems that meet SPA goals for customer, environment, and efficiency, including hydraulics and system control.
  • Complete process calculations to produce datasheets or requirement specifications.
  • Perform process calculations, hydraulics, pump calculations, capacity assessments, water quality evaluations, control philosophies, SCADA integration, and system commissioning.
  • Support the Process Discipline Head in promoting health and safety standards, ensuring designs comply with CDM Regulations and standards.
  • Ensure all technical work meets standards and specifications.
  • Maintain quality and consistency of process engineering documents.
  • Coordinate with lead team members to ensure proper review and approval of technical deliverables.
  • Communicate effectively across levels to promote technical excellence.
  • Maintain close links with engineers and discipline heads to ensure smooth interdisciplinary interfaces and share best practices.
  • Collaborate with Technical Managers to provide guidance and explore technical innovations for out-performance.
Skills, experience, and behaviours:
  • Degree in water/wastewater process science/engineering or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification such as CIWEM or MSc.
  • Member of a professional body.
  • Experience in process engineering.
  • Beneficial to have a Process/Mechanical D&B bias supporting SPA’s lean project delivery.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven IT skills and problem-solving capabilities.

We value diversity and are committed to an inclusive environment. We encourage applications from all backgrounds.

What we can offer:

Competitive salary, pension (up to 7%), flexible leave options, insurance benefits, parental leave, professional subscription coverage, discounts, and more.

Other information:

This role is employed by Mott MacDonald but involves working across the joint venture with JN Bentley and Mott MacDonald. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, providing flexible and agile working arrangements.
