Vacancy at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Oncology & Palliative Care specialties at North Middlesex University Hospital, part of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, as a Consultant Psychologist led service.

This post is suitable for a Lead Practitioner Psychologist in Oncology with experience in physical health settings and medical teams, ideally familiar with the needs of patients in Oncology & Palliative Care services. An interest in collaborative work to promote psychologically informed practice is essential. The role offers opportunities for career development, including leading projects, pathway development, and consultancy.

The post holder will likely be based at North Middlesex University Hospital, focusing initially on inpatient and outpatient care. Responsibilities include teaching, supervision, and supporting nursing colleagues to promote psychologically informed care within oncology and palliative care. Supervisory duties for trainees and junior staff may also be part of the role.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Providing highly specialist psychological assessments for service users, utilizing complex data from various sources such as psychological tests, self-report measures, and interviews.
  2. Formulating and implementing treatment plans based on appropriate conceptual frameworks and employing evidence-based methods across care settings.
  3. Offering expert guidance on psychological issues related to oncology patient care.
  4. Managing referral pathways and information databases for the North Middlesex Oncology Psychology Service.
  5. Supporting access to psychological interventions for patients experiencing distress, mental health issues, or cognitive challenges, using approaches like CBT, ACT, CFT, trauma-informed, systemic therapies, and motivational interviewing.
  6. Contributing to a comprehensive package of care through psychological interventions and management strategies.
  7. Providing consultation and guidance to other professionals for patient formulation, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  8. Ensuring the clinical team has access to psychological knowledge and frameworks for patient care.
