Job Overview

Our team investigates how consumer-focused devices deliver outstanding performance within constrained power and thermal budgets. We're growing, and looking for an engineering leader to bring their experience in power efficiency analysis to a new challenge at Arm.

The data we measure on phones and laptops under test is used by architects, engineering teams and product managers to make our future products even better. We always keep in mind the end use of our benchmarking results, working collaboratively to produce extraordinary outcomes for Arm and our partners.

Responsibilities

The engineering leader joining our team would exercise considerable freedom to experiment and find knowledge gaps we need to close. A typical day would include

  • Planning work from hypothesis to insight, with scope to adapt critical use cases and workloads to get the data required.
  • Leading efforts analysing power traces to produce power efficiency data, making this repeatable for others on the team.
  • Presenting our data and interests in a compelling manner in discussions with Partners and other teams in Arm.

Required Skills and Experience

We spend considerable effort to collect and refine data from consumer grade devices (aimed at people rather than engineers). We need our leaders in this domain to make the complicated simple, bringing the following experience and skills

  • Well-used strategies for handling experiments spanning many variables, working through ambiguity to bring clarity to both strategy and outcomes.
  • A tenacious approach to problem solving, with the ability to adapt or write new microbenchmarks to specifically target experiment outcomes where required.
  • Excellent technical communication skills for a range of audiences, from written reports to more traditional tech presentations.

“Nice To Have” Skills and Experience

The following are things that we would be looking for in our ideal new team member

  • Is self-motivated and always thinking of ways to improve how we work.
  • Is proficient at using tools such as Python to post-process data, produce statistical summaries and performance reports. Bonus points if this is flexible enough to be reused over and over again!
  • Experience in leadership, coaching, mentoring or line management.

In Return

Beyond getting to experiment on the latest consumer devices on the market? The insights you and the team uncover will guide our future product development direction so you will have a substantial positive impact on bringing amazing new technology to billions of people!

Hybrid Working at Arm

We believe in bringing people together face to face to enable us to work at pace, whilst recognizing the value of flexibility. Within that framework, we empower groups/teams to determine their own hybrid working patterns, depending on the work and the team’s needs. Details of what this means for each role will be shared upon application. In some cases, the flexibility we can offer is limited by local legal, regulatory, tax, or other considerations, and where this is the case, we will collaborate with you to find the best solution. Please talk to us to find out more about what this could look like for you.
