Job summary

Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead Council is seeking a Principal Policy Planner to support delivery of the new Local Plan and associated policy work for the Borough.

You will provide expert technical guidance to the Planning Policy Manager, deputise when required, lead key workstreams, and supervise junior staff while engaging with communities and stakeholders to ensure sustainable development and placemaking outcomes aligned with the Council Plan and Climate Strategy.

Qualifications

• Extensive post qualification experience in planning and local government.
• Experience of successful partnership working and stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to operate effectively in a political environment and deliver results.
• Strong understanding of consultation methods, customer care and process systems.
• Proven leadership, strategic direction and ability to secure commitment.

Responsibilities

• Lead on the preparation of the new Local Plan and delivery of its evidence base.

Principal Policy Planner

Ongoing contract

28 hours per week

UK driving licence essential

£60-62 per hour Umbrella

Hybrid (can be done fully remote)

Role

To support the delivery of the Council's statutory responsibilities for the production (and implementation) of the new Local Plan, in order to deliver high quality, sustainable development across the Borough.

To provide support and technical expertise to the Planning Policy Manager within the Planning Service, including deputising as appropriate and supervising junior staff.

To support the Planning Policy Manager in the delivery of the Council's statutory responsibilities for the production (and implementation) of the new Local Plan.

To lead on key workstreams for the preparation of the new Local Plan, including preparation of the evidence base.

To contribute towards the delivery of high quality, sustainable development and placemaking across the Borough and to contribute towards the Council's wider aims and objectives, including the delivery of the Council Plan and the Climate Strategy.

To consult with the community and other stakeholders, including other services, Parish Councillors, elected Members and Corporate Leadership Team.

Essential Experience

• Extensive post qualification experience of Planning and Local Government.


• Experience of successful partnership working.


• An understanding of how to achieve results in a political environment.


• A thorough understanding of consultation methods/techniques, customer care principles, systems and methods.


• Able to provide clear leadership & strategic direction in a manner that secures commitment and ownership.


• Able to communicate clearly, convincingly & sensitively, orally and in writing.


• A track record of collaborative and team working.


• Ability to plan both financial and staff resources to ensure that desired outcomes are achieved.
