Job description

Principal Policy Officer

£47,965 - £50,991 per annum, 37 Hours per week

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Planning Policy Officer to join our planning team. In this role, you will contribute to developing and implementing planning policies that shape our communities and promote sustainable growth.

You will collaborate with stakeholders, including local authorities, developers, and residents, to guide planning decisions in line with policies. You will lead in shaping planning policy, especially the Local Plan, including preparing policies, supporting evidence, analysis, and representing the Council at independent examinations. You will manage external technical evidence commissions and oversee policy outputs such as Area Action Plans, Supplementary Planning Documents, and input into Neighbourhood Plans. Additionally, you will advise Senior Officers and Members on policy implications and help develop the Council’s responses.

Requirements
  • Educated to a Planning-related degree or equivalent with relevant experience
  • Full Membership/qualification for the RTPI
  • Significant experience at Senior or Principal Planner level
  • Ability to facilitate change and resolve complex issues through negotiation
  • Calm and confident when dealing with challenging situations or presentations

This role is politically restricted under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, limiting canvassing activities related to political campaigns.
