Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to lead design, integration, and delivery of secure platforms for defence and public sector services. You will solve complex problems in an agile, team-centric environment, with a blended hybrid model of home and on-site work at UK offices.

The role partners across Windows/Linux platforms, PKI design, and secure communications, requiring deep expertise in virtualization, cloud integration, and DevSecOps practices.

Qualifications

• Expertise in Windows and Linux operating systems.
• Experience with virtualization (VMware/Hyper‑V).
• PKI design and certificate lifecycle management.
• Integration of PKI with Active Directory and applications.
• Networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls).
• Automation with PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform.
• Secure environments and defence-grade delivery.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority on platform engineering domain.
• Lead secure platform design and deployment across on‑premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
• Capture, analyse, and interpret complex customer requirements to drive system design.
• Develop high- and low-level designs aligned with secure-by-design principles.
• Take ownership of technical delivery within work packages, including planning and progress reporting.
• Mentor engineers and develop technical capability across the community.
• Provide input to technology strategies and innovation projects.
• Engage with stakeholders, presenting technical solutions and justifying design decisions.
