Job description

Principal Planning Officer (Planning Policy)

Permanent, Full Time – 37 hours per week

Salary: £47,754 - £48,710 per annum

The Development and Housing Directorate is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Town Planning professional. Preston is currently undergoing significant development, with over £20m of Towns Fund grant and a further £20m Levelling Up Fund grant, alongside major leisure and public realm projects.

The Council is reviewing its Development Plan in partnership with South Ribble and Chorley Councils on a single spatial strategy for Central Lancashire. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Principal Planner within the Planning Policy team, playing a key role in the city's transformation.

You must have a recognised qualification in Planning and hold full Membership of the RTPI. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Delivering and implementing the new local plan.
  2. Updating the City Centre Plan.
  3. Providing professional expert advice for the Council.
  4. Creating and applying planning policy and best practices.
  5. Delivering successful planning outcomes.
  6. Supporting communities in developing their Neighbourhood Plans.
  7. Overseeing the work of the team, including supervising, coaching, and mentoring officers.
