Principal Planner

Location: Colchester

Salary: £40k-£50k

As Principal Town Planner, you will lead planning projects from inception to completion, provide expert advice, and ensure compliance with planning regulations and policies. You will liaise with local authorities, clients, and stakeholders, and manage a small team of planners, offering mentorship and guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and manage complex planning applications and appeals.
  2. Provide strategic planning advice to clients, ensuring compliance with local and national planning policies.
  3. Liaise with local authorities, stakeholders, and the public on planning matters.
  4. Review planning policies and contribute to the development of regional and local plans.
  5. Manage and mentor junior planners, supporting their professional development.
  6. Conduct site assessments, prepare reports, and present planning applications.
  7. Represent clients in planning inquiries and hearings.
  8. Stay updated with the latest planning laws, regulations, and trends.

About You:

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in town planning with significant experience in both public and private sectors. You should be confident in managing complex projects and possess excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • MRTPI (Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute) qualification or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a senior planning role.
  • Experience in preparing and managing planning applications, appeals, and reports.
  • Strong understanding of UK planning legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and mentor junior staff.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with clients and stakeholders.
