NUVIA UK in Glasgow is seeking a Principal Piping Engineer to join a hybrid team supporting current operations and future programmes in the nuclear, defence and energy sectors.

You will author and review design substantiations, change controls and safety cases, while ensuring compliance with UK/EU standards. This role provides a path to leadership on high-hazard projects within a multinational engineering group.

Qualifications

• Minimum HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience.
• Experience in pipe stress analysis and plant/equipment design assessment.
• Knowledge of current design standards including British & European Standards.

Responsabilités

• Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance of Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
• Authoring design changes/concessions and associated safety substantiations.
• Presenting substantiations to Due Process nuclear safety committees.
• Developing EIMT schedules and operating procedures to meet safety cases.
• Producing Periodic Review of Safety reports and technical justifications.
• Reviewing external contractor safety case submissions and calculations.

Overview:

The Piping Engineer will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team within the Approval Authority, the primary purpose of the role is to directly support current operations and future programmes.

Tasks:

• Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of the suite of Nuclear Infrastructure Design Substantiation documents.
• Authoring, development, assessment, maintenance and management of design changes/concessions
• Presentation of Design substantiations, to ‘Due Process’ nuclear safety committees
• Production and development of Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) Schedule, operating procedures and results to satisfy design requirements and safety case through life
• Producing/assessing Periodic Review of Safety reports
• Providing advice and direction to internal and external stakeholders
• Production of Independent Technical Assessment (ITA)/Independent Peer Review (IPR) Scopes of work
• Use a combination of general and specialist engineering knowledge and understanding to apply existing and emerging technology
• Apply appropriate theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, manufacture, construct, commission, operate, maintain, decommission and re-cycle engineering processes, systems, services and products in a nuclear/high risk environment
• Producing robust technical justification to allow for relevant design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry
• Review technical reports and other safety case submissions from external contractors
• Check and review calculations and technical documents written by other members of staff

Position Requirements:

Essential:

• Experienced Piping Engineer with previous knowledge of industrial plant and machinery
• Knowledge of current design standards and working practices including British & European Standards.
• Theoretical and practical skill and experience across concept design, detailed design and construction stages across a range of electrical engineering projects (ideally including industrial and/or maritime).
• Experience in the design assessment of plant and equipment to withstand hazards
• Experience in pipe stress analysis
• Experience of authoring and producing robust technical justification and supporting documentation to allow for relevant design modifications to be authorised within a high hazard industry.
• Experience working on multi-discipline projects providing engineering input (ideally within industrial and/or maritime)

Desirable:

• Ideal candidates would already have experience within a similar high-risk environment
• Familiarity with safety case development techniques e.g., HAZID/HAZOP studies.
• Experience of working in the UK nuclear industry (energy or defence), particularly in the design and assessment of safety-related structures, systems and components.
• Knowledge of UK and US nuclear industry regulation and practice, and application of relevant nuclear-specific codes and standards.

Qualifications:

Essential:

• For non-nuclear background candidates, a Nuclear introductory course would be required to be undertaken within 6 months of joining
• Minimum HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline.
• Incorporated Engineer status or equivalent experience

Desirable:

• Engineering degree
• Chartered Engineer
