Position:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Principal Pharmacist based at University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

We seek an experienced and motivated Pharmacist to lead and manage the clinical pharmacy team across acute hospital sites. The post holder will oversee strategic planning and delivery of clinical pharmacy services across NHS Ayrshire & Arran, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards, as part of the Principal Pharmacist Clinical Services Team.

This role is aligned with the Women's & Children's directorate, including Paediatrics, Neonatal, and Women's Health. The Principal Pharmacist will foster strong clinical governance and collaborate with senior leadership. Responsibilities include monitoring, evaluating, and improving clinical pharmacy services.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership, innovation, and excellent communication skills.

Knowledge, training, and experience required:

  • Relevant clinical pharmacy experience.
  • Experience in service delivery, development, and implementing innovative solutions.
  • Experience in adverse event investigations and risk assessments.
  • Development and implementation of procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Experience in teaching, education, and training.
  • Supervisory experience with pharmacists/technicians pursuing further qualifications.
  • Advanced knowledge of medicines legislation and practice.
  • Expertise in pharmacy practice, clinical reasoning, and judgment.
  • Understanding of relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Advanced interpersonal and arithmetic skills.

Additional role requirements:

Hours: 18.5 hours per week. Participation in weekends, public holidays, and extended hours is expected. Travel between hospital sites is required, and a valid driving license/car ownership is essential.
