Working closely with the Maintenance and Operations Group, you will monitor the quality of construction activities in the field and ensure these activities are linked to quality assurance documentation and requirements and achieving good quality outcomes on site.

This is a great role for someone focused on raising the bar and building capability across the industry. The role is regional in focus and involves strong relationship skills to ensure willing compliance with industry standards.

Given the nature of the role, you will be on the road frequently, evaluating critical phases of construction to ensure critical construction standards meet compliance while identifying and reporting on any deviation from the design.

Your focus will be to reduce the impact of poor quality of works for Aotearoa, through every interaction and the way you work with others to lift team capability and improve reporting and records management.

You are passionate about best practice pavement construction, and you know the impact it has, not only on vehicles using our roads, but also the lives of people in those vehicles.

You have worked in pavement design and construction, and you have a strong understanding of maintenance and operations and some ideas on how to improve on existing construction standards and practices.

You like getting out there and imparting the knowledge you have built, and the idea of building capability is really interesting to you. You have strong relationship management skills and experience in the industry along with an eye for quality and an ability to produce quality.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant field experience in delivering pavement and surfacing works
  • Competent and demonstrated understanding in the application of ISO systems and the ability to audit against these standards
  • Ability to cross-examine contractors' systems to incentivise and improve performance
  • Civil Engineering Qualification – Diploma or equivalent

To be considered for the role you must hold a current and valid New Zealand Driver's License (or equivalent).

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

The Maintenance and Operations teamkeep the transport system operational, safe and optimised to meet the needs of all New Zealanders.

Along with our other benefits we also have new Waka Kotahi Life, Income Protection and Critical Illness Insurance scheme available for permanent employees.
