The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across sectors including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable, and transmission & distribution networks. We provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle – from concept and design to construction, operations, decommissioning, or repowering and life extension. About the role:

The Transmission & Distribution division is recruiting a Principal Overhead Line Engineer to be part of an integral team delivering large projects globally. The candidate will provide specialist engineering advice and input across various projects.

• Perform, review, and approve HV OHL designs complying with relevant international standards.
• Proficient in writing and reviewing reports.
• Ensure designs approved for delivery comply with legislation, standards, policies, and procedures.
• Lead the preparation, coordination, and review of design drawings.
• Update or create design standards and documentation to ensure compliance and industry best practices.
• Conduct studies in areas like line and foundation design, tower spotting, sag-tension, conductor selection, structural design of towers and poles.
• Manage specifications, schedules, BOQs, and other documentation.
• Identify optimal approaches for complex, multidisciplinary projects.
• Implement innovative design solutions to meet project needs.
• Provide competitive design solutions aligned with client objectives.
• Use engineering software such as PLS CADD, PLS Tower, PLS Pole.
• Deliver projects in line with client requirements and industry standards.
• Manage construction activities and lead project and design review meetings.
• Have OHL site experience.
• Capable of chairing meetings, communicating effectively, and producing reports.
• Contribute technically to proposals.

About you:

• BSc or Master’s in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience.
• Extensive experience in OHL engineering, scheme, and project management.
• Knowledge of British and international standards and codes.
• Understanding of legislation, policies, and procedures relevant to design and specifications.
• Knowledge of HSE and CDM regulations.
• Ability to perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
• Experience in Construction Design Studies (CDS).
• Proficiency in PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower, PLS-Pole, AutoCAD, and other design software.
• Understanding of quality assurance processes for design.
• Knowledge of safety design requirements.
• Strong communication, professionalism, and integrity.
• TP141 authorization preferred.
• Mentorship skills for supporting junior staff.
• Proactive with excellent client interaction skills.
• Teamwork-oriented.

The Principal OHL Engineer provides expert advice, designs, reports, and manages transmission and distribution line design projects. Responsibilities include route selection, modeling, structural design, site verification, and documentation. The role requires independent project completion and innovative problem-solving, with proficiency in English and French as an advantage.
