A little more about your role…

The Liveable Places team works with a wide range of local authority and private clients across the UK to help them achieve their placemaking ambitions. We deliver schemes from concept to delivery, including public realm, traffic engineering, road safety, traffic signals, pedestrian/traffic modelling, active travel, and parking. Recent successes include projects with Westminster City Council, West Sussex County Council, and others.

The team is based in offices nationwide, with over 200 staff and plans for further growth. This role is within our dynamic team of 70, working closely with other teams across our mobility service line. We are passionate and skilled professionals, offering an excellent opportunity for career development through diverse experiences.

This role provides a pivotal opportunity to support and steer the growth of Liveable Places.

We are seeking a Principal or Associate based in our London Office to:
  • Work directly with clients to meet their sustainable transport needs;
  • Project and programme manage cycle and walking projects, sustainable drainage, public realm, and safety schemes, typically ranging from £500k to £10m;
  • Follow WSP’s internal processes, including project budgeting and financial management;
  • Maintain client relations through updates and assurance;
  • Manage resources across projects, collaborating with experts in carbon, drainage, lighting, structures, and modelling;
  • Work collaboratively with various teams to achieve objectives;
  • Contribute to business development efforts;
  • Optionally, mentor or people-manage junior staff.
What we will be looking for you to demonstrate…
  • A civil engineering or transport planning degree or equivalent;
  • Chartered membership of a relevant professional body (desirable);
  • Leadership and management experience in project teams;
  • Experience in transport, traffic signals, road safety, and highway engineering;
  • Excellent communication skills to liaise with stakeholders;
  • Optional: Experience in Road Safety Audits.
