Principal Officer
Rate: £24.22 - £32.26 per hour
Duration: 6 months minimum
Location: Bromsgrove, Worcestershire – hybrid working
Opus People Solutions are working with Bromsgrove to recruit a Principal Officer to coordinate, supervise, monitor, and manage the operational work and performance of a team of professional officers. The role involves supporting the Team Manager in implementing service plans, ensuring statutory functions and public protection roles are fulfilled, and providing advice and education on trading standards and environmental health/public health issues.
Main Responsibilities:
- Act as an inspector of weights and measures (subject to qualification), including verifying and certifying weighing equipment for trade use.
- Prepare reports for council committees and other audiences, adhering to tight deadlines, and present reports at meetings as required.
- Prepare and present evidence for legal proceedings, including appearances in court and public inquiries.
- Stay informed about the scope of work in the regulatory service and legislative changes in trading standards and environmental health.
- Maintain a sound working knowledge in assigned areas of trading standards, environmental health, or licensing.
- Provide advice to the public, trade, and businesses on relevant issues.
- Oversee advisory services provided to partners on planning applications and development control processes, where applicable.
