Our Client, a design engineering consultancy, is seeking a highly experienced and knowledgeable Principal Nuclear Safety Engineer to join their team. With a focus on delivering complex, high-impact projects in the aerospace, defence, and nuclear sectors, and to help deliver some of the UKs most significant defence-related programmes.
Whilst your office base will be in Bristol, Manchester, Silchester, Glasgow, or Newcastle upon Tyne, flexibility in work location is essential, as the project may occasionally require the team to deliver work on-site at various client locations.
Experience:- You have a proven track record in safety, ideally within the defence and nuclear domain, or other highly regulated industries.- You are ready to make the next step in your career and to join a team that will provide opportunities for growth.- You will be hungry to expand your knowledge and experience and, thrive in a stretching but supportive environment.- You will enjoy innovating and problem solving. You embrace the digital world and be eager to explore how it can be used in the nuclear safety environment.- You like to engage with others, making positive strides to aid others develop and grow.- You enjoy explaining complex ideas, helping people to get it, and then watch them go on and achieve more.- You are approachable and can easily build and develop relationships and networks.- Honours Degree (or equivalent) in physics, mechanical engineering, or closely related discipline (2:1 minimum).- Chartered (or working towards Chartership status).- Technical practitioner in the Nuclear/Defence domains, able to demonstrate good engineering judgement with experience in applying fundamental engineering principles.
Job Responsibilities:- Shaping the nuclear safety case strategy.- Working closely with project partners to ensure a safety informed design.- Engaging with stakeholders to facilitate Right First Time delivery (incl. designers, client, site, and regulatory body (e.g. DNSR, ONR)).- Undertaking safety assessments and safety analysis (e.g. HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, HAZAN, etc).- Producing safety reports and other technical documents (e.g. PSR, PCSR, ALARP reports, etc).- Support to Engineering Substantiation activities.- Managing/Leading Safety Case activities and teams.
