Babcock is rapidly establishing itself as an international Naval ship designer and builder. We have built on the success of the UK MOD Type-31 Frigate and have secured contracts for frigate export variants (AH) with overseas customers. As well as supporting exports of frigates, the engineering team is actively working on other ship newbuild and life extension programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers.

The role
As a Principal Naval Architect, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early-stage design as well as supporting the bidding process.

Day to day you'll:

• Develop and lead technical solutions: From concept to final vessel acceptance.
• Lead and develop design teams through the design lifecycle: Ensure collaboration and effective project execution.
• Develop innovative designs and processes: Implement efficient outfitting solutions and produce substantiation reports for tasks undertaken
• Support team member growth: Foster a culture of learning and development.
• Produce technical reports and documentation: Maintain high quality and adhere to standards.
• Contribute to the wider engineering capability group: Participate in diverse projects for career growth.

This is a permanent position, working Monday to Friday. Essential experience of the Principal Naval Architect

• Experience in the naval/marine industry and experience of using a variety of naval architecture packages and extensive knowledge of design packages e.g., ship stability, 2D & 3D CAD.

Qualifications for the Principal Naval Architect:

• Either Degree qualified but HND/HNC level qualification in an Engineering discipline with extensive practical design experience in outfitting and ship design will be considered
• You will be a member of a relevant institution (e.g., RINA, IET, IMechE, IMarEst etc.) and either hold Chartered engineer status or working towards Chartered engineering status and be considered a subject matter expert in your field.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
