Job Description:

Location: Bristol – Hybrid

As a Principal Naval Architect, you will work on naval platforms throughout all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial design to build support and commissioning.

The Naval Architecture Department includes teams specializing in weights engineering, stability and hydrostatics, infrastructure support, seamanship and outfit, manoeuvring and control, fluid dynamics, design, and development.

Role responsibilities include:

  • Designing advanced submarines
  • Applying expertise in hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, seamanship & outfit, infrastructure, or entire vessel design to support major UK shipbuilding projects
  • Supporting sea trials, inclining experiments, and commissioning activities across multiple vessel classes
  • Conducting R&D to develop leading capabilities

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Proven experience as a Naval Architect
  • Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered status
  • Eligibility for UK SC Clearance – UK Eyes Only
  • Degree in Naval Architecture
  • Experience in ship design analysis and build support
  • Strong numeracy and analytical skills
  • Previous experience with defence projects
