We are recruiting a permanent full-time Principal Natural Environment Officer with a technical specialism in ecology to manage a team of professionals delivering the County Council's natural environment monitoring, evidence / data collection and interpretation functions.
This role presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated people manager to be the County's strategic and technical lead for Lancashire'sLocal Environment Records Network (LERN)and theBiological Heritage Sites (BHS)team. Leading on data, monitoring and evidence, you will also provide specialist support and advice to senior managers, colleagues and customers, supporting several Council duties and functions, including nature recovery, biodiversity duty, planning, policy and other evidence-based decision making.
Both LERN and the BHS team have been integral in the development of Lancashire's emerging Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS)for which the County Council is the Responsible Authority. Both teams will continue to support work on the LNRS, particularly in relation to monitoring, data and evidence. This is an exciting time to join the team as we look forward to delivering the priorities set out in the LNRS.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate individual whoshares our desire to see better, bigger, and more connected nature-rich places throughout Lancashire, and who enjoys and recognises the benefits of collaborating with others.
The successful candidate will have sound understanding of ecological principals and issues. They will have excellent people management and organisational skills, as well as data management and analysis skills, including GIS. They will have experience of strategic partnership working and building relationships with stakeholders to make decisions or influence outcomes.
You will join the Environment and Climate Team, working closely alongside other principal officers who lead on areas including ecology development control advice, Biodiversity Net Gain, woodland management and treescapes, the Public Rights of Way network, the Countryside Service, the Forest of Bowland National Landscape, and the Council's wider environment programme. The team has well developed links with the 14 district and unitary councils of Lancashire, as well as voluntary sector environmental and community bodies which operate within our region.
The post will be based at County Hall in Preston. However, Lancashire County Council operates a flexible working policy, and our team is working in a hybrid approach with the opportunity to work from home and in the office.
