Job description

Location: Barrow-In-Furness. We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements - please speak to your recruiter about the options for this particular role.
Salary: Competitive

What you'll be doing:

  1. Perform and supervise high level calibration/repair of Mechanical test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) including resource management and calibration workload signoff.
  2. Write, review and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets.
  3. Take part in UKAS (ISO 17025) audits and quickly achieve UKAS signatory status.
  4. Deliver specific, target driven on the job training/experiential learning to apprentices/lesser experienced team members.
  5. Professional communication with technical stakeholders including consultation on new measurement technologies.

Minimum Requirements:
  1. Extensive experience in a precision Mechanical metrology laboratory environment.
  2. Understanding of quality systems & standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001).
  3. Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent).

Desirable:
  1. Existing UKAS signatory status for Mechanical Calibrations (Pressure, Mass, Torque, Force).
  2. Experience in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level.
  3. Experience in use of automation software (Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview).

The (ICS Mechanical) team:
The calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment through to state-of-the-art digital systems. ICS Mechanical focuses the calibration of TMDE capable of making pressure, mass, torque, and force measurements. ICS Mechanical supports calibrations in a dedicated laboratory as well on site around the Barrow Submarines Site. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
