Job description

The Energy Transition is the fundamental shift underway in how we, as a global community, produce, distribute, and consume energy, with the overarching goal of transitioning to a lower carbon future.

Will you be part of the solution? If you are passionate about making a difference in the sector, then join Stantec's industry leading Energy team in driving the change!

As a result of recent successes and the development of new projects and clients, Stantec is looking to recruit a Principal Mechanical Engineer into our Energy & Resources team. This role can be based in any of our UK offices, ideally reachable from the Midlands.

Working as part of our Waste and Generation Team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including conventional EfW plants, district heating, gasification projects, hydrogen generation schemes, and multiple biogas production projects.

In this role, you will be involved in the entire project life cycle, from optioneering through detailed design and installation. You will conduct feasibility studies, site surveys, and investigations. Collaboration with clients, partners, and team members is essential to develop designs and project-wide solutions across various projects in the Energy and Resources sector.

As designers in the construction/energy/waste sectors, we take our responsibility for HSE matters seriously, fostering a culture of open scrutiny and continuous improvement.

About You

Our team produces technical specifications across various technologies (e.g., Steam, piping, hydrogen, biomass, EfW plants), and supports collaborative design outputs like General Arrangement Drawings, 3D models, and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams. You should understand these activities and communicate technical updates effectively.

Creating specifications and scoping documents for construction packages and assessing vendor designs and progress are key responsibilities, and some experience in these areas is preferred.

Most importantly, embody and support our values of client focus, community-minded designing, collaboration, and service excellence.
