Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer in York. The role combines high-level design leadership with strategic client engagement, influencing technical direction and team development in a collaborative consulting environment.

You will lead complex projects across sectors, mentor engineers, and contribute to winning new work while delivering technically excellent solutions on time and within budget.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Building Services Engineering or related field.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards, with a clear pathway to completion.
• Extensive experience delivering Mechanical Building Services design projects in complex environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of complex mechanical building services projects (HVAC, Public Health).
• Act as technical authority, provide oversight and QA across design teams.
• Deliver innovative, commercially focused engineering solutions meeting regulatory and client needs.
• Produce and review calculations, reports, specs, and design docs.
• Manage client relationships and act as main contact throughout projects.
• Coordinate with architects, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams.
