Job Description

Your missions:
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge engineering solutions, from initial concept to implementation. You will provide technical leadership, oversee project deliverables, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and quality standards. Day to day responsibilities will include:

  1. Leading and delivering engineering solutions from optioneering through to implementation.
  2. Manage budgets, timelines, and resources effectively.
  3. Oversee testing and commissioning processes.
  4. Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, integrating safety and engineering disciplines.
  5. Provide guidance and tasking to junior engineers and designers, offering subject matter expertise.
  6. Lead packages of work and support project managers with performance tracking.
  7. Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, including BS EN 13001, BS 2573, and BS EN 13155.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills to be successful:
You should have extensive experience within:

  1. Drive Mechanisms
  2. Hydraulic Systems
  3. Lifting Equipment Design
  4. Welding Design
  5. Design for Manufacture
  6. Mechanical Handling

Experience using the below software is essential:

  1. Inventor
  2. AutoCAD
  3. Vault
  4. MathCAD
  5. Staad Pro (preferred)
  6. Revit (preferred)

In-depth understanding of key regulations and standards is essential:

  1. Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations
  2. CDM Regulations
  3. UKCA marking

Required experience:
Demonstrable managing and delivering engineering projects with multi-discipline teams.
Background in mechanical handling, lifting, and crane design.
Knowledge of Systems Engineering approaches, including Requirements Capture and Validation & Verification.
Proven experience managing engineering scope from Concept Design to Installation.
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
Understanding and application of nuclear safety cases and engineering substantiation.
Experience within the nuclear/defence industry.
Familiarity with legislative regulations such as CDM, Machinery Directive, and PED.
Experience working with NEC3/NEC4 contracts.

Additional Information
Staff positions, umbrella contractors considered.
Will consider base at any Assystem office but preferably Sunderland, Glasgow, Derby, Bristol, Blackburn in that order.
Sole UK Nationals required, capable of securing SC status. Can commence work with BPSS.
