Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Catia V5, Prestwick

This role is with a leading aerospace firm seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer (Catia V5) for a contract position in Prestwick. Applicants must be based in the UK and hold a British Passport.

Job Summary

Provide mechanical design support for a Mid-Life Upgrade programme of the Atmospheric Research Aircraft, focusing on BAE 146 modifications. The role involves working from concept to handover, collaborating with customers and third-party civil design organisations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in all phases of the design lifecycle, from concept to embodiment
  • Support surveys and installations at customer sites
  • Estimate tasks for cost and time
  • Create models and drawings using CATIA V5
  • Prepare Bill of Materials
  • Check engineering data and drawings for accuracy
  • Prepare compliance evidence reports
  • Meet project schedules and budgets
  • Communicate task status
  • Lead technical design reviews
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external clients
Job Requirements
  • Experience in airframe mechanical design (fabricated and machined components)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Proficiency in CAD/CATIA (2D and 3D)
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills
  • Knowledge of airworthiness and certification is a plus
  • Flexible working arrangements (hybrid/office)
  • Project duration until March 2027
