MEP Technical Talent is recruiting an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established M&E contractor in North Wales. This senior role keeps you hands-on while progressing toward design management.

You will lead a small building services design team, offering technical guidance and ensuring designs are practical, coordinated and installable across multiple projects. The position provides a natural progression toward Design Management while preserving strong hands-on design

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical building services design experience.
• Proficiency using Revit for mechanical building services design.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed mechanical building services designs for projects.
• Lead coordination of mechanical designs with electrical, architectural and structural disciplines.
• Mentor and develop junior/intermediate engineers on the team.
• Coordinate workloads and allocate design tasks across the team.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and design teams to ensure design intent and programme alignment.
• Ensure designs are practical, coordinated and installable on site.

We are recruiting an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join an established M&E contractor in North Wales.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior-level Mechanical Design Engineer who wants to remain technically hands-on while taking the next step in their career towards design management.

The successful candidate will take a lead role within a small building services design team, providing technical guidance and support to other engineers while remaining actively involved in the delivery of mechanical designs across a range of projects.

The Role

• Producing detailed mechanical building services designs
• Mechanical HVAC and public health services design
• Producing and developing designs using Revit and AutoCAD
• Carrying out mechanical calculations and equipment selections
• Producing technical drawings, specifications and design documentation
• Reviewing designs and technical information produced by other engineers
• Coordinating mechanical designs with electrical, architectural and structural disciplines
• Taking a lead role in allocating and coordinating design workloads
• Providing technical guidance and support to junior and intermediate engineers
• Mentoring and developing members of the design team
• Ensuring designs are practical, coordinated and suitable for installation
• Working closely with Contracts Managers, Project Managers and site delivery teams
• Liaising with clients, consultants, suppliers and other project stakeholders
• Attending design and coordination meetings
• Identifying design risks and opportunities for value engineering
• Ensuring designs are delivered in accordance with project programmes

About You

• Strong Mechanical Building Services design experience
• Excellent knowledge of mechanical systems and their application within construction projects
• Strong hands-on design capability
• Proficiency using Revit for mechanical building services design
• Proficiency using AutoCAD
• Experience producing and coordinating detailed mechanical designs
• Ability to review and technically assess the work of other engineers
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• The confidence to provide technical leadership to a small engineering team
• Relevant Mechanical Engineering or Building Services qualifications

Experience within an M&E installation contractor would be particularly advantageous, although candidates from a consultancy background will also be considered.
