Job Description:

ROLE - Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

LOCATION - Preston, Lancashire

TERM - Permanent

SALARY - £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

My client designs and manufactures specialist equipment and precision parts. They are looking to hire a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Preston on a permanent basis.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 5 years of experience in CAD Design / Mechanical Development
  • Degree / HNC / HND / BTEC / NVQ in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Knowledge of machinery, robotics, rotating equipment, and precision components
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, etc.
  • Strong theoretical mechanical engineering knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a small multidisciplinary team

Responsibilities include:

  • Using CAD for concept design and technical drawings
  • Reverse engineering, product development, testing, and prototyping
  • Liaising with manufacturing providers
  • Involvement in final assembly
  • Creating documentation, project reports, and plans
  • Updating 3D models and drawings
  • Inputting parts into the MRP system and creating BOMs
  • Checking drawings for approval
  • Collaborating on varied projects within a small team
